Magpie Mine - Peak District Walk

With a looming deadline I needed to get out and write up a walk and as the forecast wasn't looking good it needed to be a walk where I knew I already had some good photos I could submit as well. I was joined on the walk by fellow OFC member Angela and her dog Bailey for what turned out to be a somewhat wet and very muddy walk.
Start: White Lodge car park (SK 1703 7065)
Route: White Lodge car park - Deep Dale - Magpie Mine - Sheldon - Ashford in the Water - Pennyunk Lane - Monsal Head - Monsal Dale - White Lodge car park
Distance: 8.25 miles Ascent: 401 metres Time Taken: 5 hours 5 mins
Terrain: Clear but muddy paths, quiet lanes and fields.
Weather: Light showers turning heavy then dry.

A damp and muddy start to the walk as we make our way up Deep Dale
Looking back as we leave Deep Dale behind.
Heading towards Magpie Mine we came across this herd of cows with their very small calves.
Magpie Mine's engine house, where some millstones provided a dry spot for some lunch.
The heavens opened as we left Magpie Mine but thankfully the shower stopped as we started the descent to Ashford in the Water to allow us some good views. Here looking across to the ridge that is covered by Manners wood.
Looking the other way there appears to be some sunlight catching Longstone Edge.
The medieval Sheepwash Bridge, which has appeared on many a postcard sent from this part of the world.
Heading up Pennyunk Lane and the views now include a distant Harland Edge.

We emerge from the lane to views across Monsal Dale, here looking to the Wardlow Cop.

Following the path down to the valley floor Bailey checks where Angela is. Not me, my companion for the day who is also called Angela.
All looks calm on the River Wye.
Actually it was anything but as we were stood by the weir, which was rather loud after all the recent rain.
A final look along Monsal Dale as we near the end of the walk.
